Notable players who didn’t qualify were Tommy Armour, Harry Cooper, Billy Burke and Harold McSpaden, who shot 153 and lost in the playoff.

All matches played at 36 holes.

In the finals, Dutra continued his assault on par and beat Walsh, 4 and 3. For Walsh, it was a valiant try at the Championship that seven months prior would have seemed impossible. He had suffered a fractured skull and was sidelinedeight weeks. For Dutra, his performance is remembered as one of the most dominant victories in the history of the PGA Championship. Over the course of the six days of the Championship, Dutra played 196 holes and was 19-under-par.
